SOS Mourns the Passing of Vuyo Mbuli

SOS MOURNS THE PASSING OF VUYO MBULI

The SOS Coalition is deeply saddened by the news of the sudden death of radio and television journalist and presenter, Vuyo Mbuli. His death is, no doubt, a loss to not only his family and friends to whom we wish to express our most heartfelt condolences, but also to the South African media and creative industries.

Mbuli’s work was a shining example of commitment and service to citizen-oriented journalism and public broadcasting, always living up to those core public broadcasting values: to educate, to entertain and to inform. He left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched in both his life and through his work, and will forever be remembered for it.

May he rest in peace and may his legacy of broadcasting excellence continue to innovative, citizen-oriented public broadcasting in South Africa.

The SOS Coalition represents a broad spectrum of civil society stakeholders committed to the broadcasting of quality, diverse, citizen-orientated public-interest programming aligned to the goals of the SA Constitution. The Coalition includes a number of trade union federations including COSATU and FEDUSA, a number of independent unions including BEMAWU and MWASA; independent film and TV production sector organisations including the South African Screen Federation (SASFED); a host of NGOs and CBOs including the Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI) and Media Monitoring Africa (MMA), and a number of academics and freedom of expression activists.
