SOS submission on the broadcasting regulatory review – Sparks Seminar – 27 Feb 2012

SOS submission to the Sparks Seminar. SOS Coordinator, Kate Skinner argued that although ICASA and its predecessor the IBA had played a key role in transforming the broadcasting landscape post apartheid this transformation has now stagnated. The broadcasting sector is now plagued by a number of problems including media concentration, lack of competition, funding problems etc. This is the heritage of the analogue environment. ICASA must now ensure that it transforms the broadcasting landscape in the digital age to ensure a real diversity of players and views. We need a broadcasting policy review, followed by new legislation and regulations.
