Tribute to the Late Jeanette Minnie: Go well, Jeanette. Though you are gone, you will not soon be forgotten.

It is with shock and disbelief and incredible sadness that we heard yesterday about the passing of Jeanette Minnie. Jeanette played a significant role as a founding member of the SOS: Support Public Broadcasting Coalition.  At the SOS launch meeting in June 2008 she shared her experiences as an activist in the early 1990s. She talked about the power of collective action and the power of building civil society coalitions across political perspectives and across different groupings including unions, NGOs, academics and individual activists. She was a leading member of the Campaign for Open Media and the Campaign for Independent Broadcasting active in the 1990s.  The SOS Coalition drew inspiration from these powerful, transformative campaigns.

Jeanette was a feisty, brave and generous member of the SOS Coalition. She freely shared her time and her expertise. She was constantly willing to help, to participate, to contribute, to edit and even to translate (at very short notice and for free!) campaign materials.

Jeanette will be sorely missed. We will miss her enthusiasm, her generosity, her wisdom and her constant courage. Jeanette, you brought new meaning to the phrase “speaking truth to power”. Go well dear friend.

And our love, support and sincere condolences to Pierre and family. We hold you in our thoughts and prayers.
