SABC – DoC Shareholder Compact 2011/12

Published On November 22, 2012 | By SOS Coordinator | Media / Press Release, News

This is the shareholder compact signed between the Government of the Republic of South Africa in the Department of Communications and the SABC.

While both parties have refused both our written and PAIA requests to make this document available to the public, we have managed to get our hands on a copy and hereby avail it to the public because it concerns a public institution.

Unless public information on our public institutions such as our public broadcaster, the SABC, is made available to South Africans, how then can we expect to measure its progress, hold it accountable and pull it out of the debilitating instability and inefficiency it has been trapped in for the greater part of the last half-decade?

We demand an SABC that works and transparency and accountability are an integral part of ensuring that it does.
